Tonight we visited Trinity Christian School in Statesboro for Nathan’s Kindergarten Open House. He was SO excited! Uncle Ken teaches at Trinity, so he met us at the door when we arrived. We had already told Nathan that his teacher’s name would be Ms. Coffey – along with other information about “big” school. We walked down to her classroom, and Nathan led the way through the door and said, “Hey, Ms. Coffey!” – like they were lifelong friends. He proceeded to check out everything in the classroom, asking questions as he went. Ms. Coffey commented later that she hoped she passed her “interview” with Nathan. Two of his friends from FBC PreK will be in his class – Andrew and Jayne Mac.

I can’t believe I just registered my oldest baby boy for kindergarten …

Trains, trains, trains January 31, 2010

The boys and I made a quick trip to one of their favorite places in the world – the “Train Museum”. It’s actually the Roundhouse Railroad Museum in Savannah, run by the Coastal Heritage Society. We discovered the train museum when Nathan was about 2, I think, and we have been regularly ever since. Nathan is 5 now, and there is no sign of him outgrowing trains anytime soon.

I am currently about 7 1/2 months pregnant with “Baby Austin”, and many people comment about how they are amazed that I have the energy to take them places. It’s not really so noble as it sounds, though … I find that it’s much easier to take mine somewhere than to keep them entertained at home. So, ever since Luke has gotten big enough to take places, we have been going – and going – and going. I love being out with them, and I love building new memories and watching their experiences through their little eyes.

We spent more time at the non-train places at the Roundhouse. Since the first time we saw it, I have been struck by the charm of the Roundhouse. There are many places where the old brick structures remain, but they are enhanced by the absence of a roof or stairs that used to exist there. I have often thought this would be a beautiful place for an event – wedding, etc. I guess if Nathan is still a train fan when he gets married maybe we’ll have his rehearsal dinner there …

Welcome to our Chaos! January 26, 2010

So … I’ve decided to start blogging.  I am afraid that we will forget all of the fun, funny, sweet things happening in the midst of this vanishing vapor that is our life – so here’s where I’ll put them.

A little background on our life – we have been blessed with 2 sweet boys: Nathan (just turned 5) and Luke (almost 4).  We are expecting boy #3 to make his debut in Mid-March.

April is a full-time mommy – and then some (as all mommies know).  Denys owns his own business – Catalyst Innovations – that sells promotional products and coordinates fundraisers for businesses, schools, nonprofits …whoever needs his services.

We are unashamedly Christians, very active in our church, and our faith plays a tremendous role in the way we choose to live our lives.  Our first priority in life is to mirror Jesus’s love in our lives to the lives of others, and hopefully point them to Him.

So … tune in to follow the happy chaos that defines our lives.

I have to give credit to Amy Taylor for the term “happy chaos” – I loved it immediately when i heard it from her in the midst of life with her (then) 4 children – (she now has 6).  Amy told me once that “as long as the chaos and craziness is happy, then everything is good.”  I’m embracing it!

I also need to credit Heather Benton – hbdocumentary.com – with the sandbox picture in the header.  My friend, and favorite photographer – check her out!
